I met Charles Tilly at the Center for Studies of Social Change, New School for Social Research, 64 University Place, where he gave me the great opportunity to work with him from 1984 to 1987. This experience was one of the best things in all my life, and I will always be grateful to him.

He was a wonderful professor and a marvelous person, an scholar “como la copa de un pino”, as Spaniards used to say when we want to describe the best quality of somebody: insightful, generous, productive, efficient, friendly, exigent, egalitarian… Really, a virtuoso in the art of living as well as in the social sciences.

I want to join to all of you who, as Craig Calhoun says, will miss his voice.
